For the ‘Woojuin-2007 FL-1’ floor lamp, my intention was to create a lamp that would cast a warm glow of light in a room similar to a fireplace. Also, I wanted to create a design that was symbolic of our automated lives in a digital world. My concept word was “automation”. The head of the lamp is large to suggest a large brain or memory. The three stacks suggest venting of warm air common around equipment and machinery. The dangling objects inside the lamp (pearls, polished bronze plates, and stained glass) represent consciousness and energy. The body of the lamp is featureless with no appendages except for legs for transportation and maneuvering. This is a body streamlined production and efficiency.
